About Natasha

I'm Natasha Newton, an artist and illustrator working from my studio in the beautiful coastal county of Suffolk in England. I also spend a few months of the year in Paris, dividing my time between the two places. I exhibit my work through various galleries and shows, and sell selected pieces online via my shops The Blackbird Sings and Natasha Newton Paintings + Prints.

Through art I explore a love of birds, nature, and astronomy, conveying the magic and beauty that surrounds us every day. Inspired by the simplicity of the winter landscape, I often paint scenes that reflect where I would like to be and tend to use colours that evoke a strong memory or feeling, making the work symbolic and slightly dream-like.

I have exhibited with many galleries throughout the UK, and my work has been selected several times for major shows in London, including winning an award at The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours Annual Exhibition. I'm currently showing work on a permanent basis with the Serena Hall Gallery in Southwold, Suffolk and Snape Maltings Gallery, Suffolk, as well as taking part in group and solo exhibitions at venues across the UK and abroad.

In recent years my work has gained a large international following and now sells to collectors all over the world, with paintings and illustrations in around 20 countries. I regularly accept fine art painting commissions and illustration work; my art has been used by the book publishing company Random House for a series of five books by the author Jorge Bucay, on the front cover of Resurgence & Ecologist magazine (Jan/Feb 2014), by Moo Print Ltd on a selection of business cards and stationery, and to illustrate magazine articles and CD covers.

My paintings have been featured in the national press and on many websites and design blogs including Design*Sponge, Homes & Gardens, Designlovefest, Resurgence & Ecologist, UK Handmade, Apartment Therapy, sfgirlbybay, Et pourquoi pas Coline, Pikaland, Illustration Friday and The Beat That My Heart Skipped, to name just a few. A collection of my painted stones were featured in the March 2012 issue of Homes and Gardens magazine in the UK.

"Sometimes, the art speaks for itself, and these stunning works are screaming at the top of their metaphorical lungs. A virtual protégé of the macabre influence of Edward Gorey and the gentle childlike influence of Where The Wild Things Are illustrator Maurice Sendak." - A review of my work by Moo Print Ltd.
